Merv and myself just back from riding 3 Rail Trails in Victoria all up 10 days for a total of 420kms, worth the 12 hour bus ride to the start at Orbost, arriving at 2.30am. A good sleep in then off on a side trip to Marlo on the coast to see where the Snowy River finally enters the sea and for a snack at the pub. Next day onto to the trail through mainly forest not great scenery but a lot of railway history along the way, many old trestle bridges have been preserved Merv was wrapped, I was into the wildlife 60 species of birds identified on the trip.

The country changed dramatically to farmland from Bruthen, almost as green as England, the weather was a bit the same, but the bakeries were better. We left the Rail trail at Bairnsdale and took a back country road with the wind at our backs and headed for Stratford, great digs with water views. Next day was back on the rail trail to Tralgon, the trail was washed out in a section so had to join the traffic mostly on quiet roads; next day was a short train trip to Pakenham ready to head for the Lily field Warburton trail. A great scenic ride through mountain Ash forests with many hills and many bikies but worth it. A rest day in Warburton just as well it rained most of day, the rain eased off on the next days ride to the finish at Lily field, a great scenic ride a must do.

A day riding and getting lost in Melbourne finished off an enjoyable tour, a special thanks to Merv for keeping me company.

Sounds great MIke.

Did you have the GPS on to record the ride?

I was in Lilyfield a few weeks back and could see the start of the rail trail there.
