New north-south cycleway proposed for Livingstone Rd through Marrickville. Have a look and lend your support. It is a two way separated cycle path like the ones in the City. I reckon it could be wider, so maybe ask for it to be 3 m wide, not the minimal 2.4 m they propose. Motor traffic doesn't need almost 4 m lanes. Also, the Bike Lane signs proposed on the plan are not correct, it is a bike path. Cyclists will need to use the road if turning in some cases, or it could just be more convenient to ride on the road. Bike Lane signs would mean you can't legally ride on the road.
Good precedent for the new Innerwest Council. Hope they extend this sort of path to Balmain Rd, past Callan Park up to Rozelle. No residential on one side, so they could easily remove parking to put in a bike path.
Latest on Livingstone Rd is that some residents have complained about losing parking outside their homes. The plan actually adds more parking, through proposed angle parking in side streets. Will the Council hold firm, or will a few residents block this separated path ?
Residents appear to have won, they won't lose the parking outside their houses. A modified narrow bike path is now being proposed, below minimum standards. Is a substandard cycleway worth having? I'd rather ride on the road than face head-ons with oncoming cyclists on a too narrow two way path, but others think anything is better than riding on the road.
LBUG routes on Bikely. If that link doesn't work, just put "LBUG" in the search box, along with Australia and NSW in the following boxes.
If you have any routes on Bikely of your own that you would like included here, add "LBUG" to the title and re-save.
